Carlo is a musician, economist, and art historian by training, now working as an artist and researcher at the intersection of art and ecology. His creative practice focuses on wilderness and the understanding of remote areas of the planet, developed through a series of projects, residencies, and exhibitions in Europe, South America, Central Asia, and Antarctica. In academia, Carlo currently serves as a Professor in Arts Management at Franklin University Switerland in Lugano, Switzerland.

He earned his Ph.D. in History of Art from Birkbeck College, University of London, where he also served as an Associate Tutor in 2018-2019. His research there centred on the notion of 'othering' and the representation of non-Western cultures in British national museums. Over the last decade, he has also regularly advised governments and cultural organisations in Europe and the Gulf on non-profit cultural initiatives, while holding a number of executive and advisory positions.

Before developing his independent practice, Carlo worked for the British Museum and the Science Museum in London, following a 7-year career in finance and management consulting. Throughout his career, Carlo has also served on several boards in the cultural sector, including the New Movement Collective, the Science Museum Foundation and the Royal Society of Sculptors. He has been a nominator for the Prince Claus Awards from 2017 to 2022 and is currently the lead organiser of the Kinnernet un-conference in Dubai and Italy.
