An innovative literary work on childhood memories and past experiences.

After the captivating historical novel, “Petros”,  published last year, Professor Emeritus Robert H. McCormick Jr. is publishing his new literary work, “Io, nelle scuole pubbliche”.

A former Franklin faculty member, Professor McCormick taught Literature and Creative Writing, directed Academic Travels, served as a Faculty Advisor to The Literary Society and student mentor, and won numerous awards. Before his experience at Franklin, he also taught at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts for six years, but is today retired from academic life and thus dedicated to his own literary art and creative writing.

“Io, nelle scuole pubbliche” is a collection of six short stories progressively narrating different moments from the author’s life, most of which take place in his childhood and/or in Ticino. Some of the narratives' main characters, who have influenced and added to the author’s fictional world, are a barbarous barber, an unfortunate cross-border worker, and a beautiful university professor with an incredible resemblance to Ingrid Bergman.  Professor McCormick also explores past memories from his childhood, recalling the house he shared with his four siblings and his parents, as well as his school life at various public schools. He focuses especially on the people, circumstances, places and emotions that influenced his choices and experiences during those years in an attempt to unveil his deep-seated “I.”

“Io, nelle scuole pubbliche” will soon be available starting today, April 21,  2021, in Italian language via the local publishing company, Fontana Print. You can book your copy here. Locally, the book will also be available at Segnalibro, in downtown Lugano.
