On September 18, 2024, Franklin University Switzerland was honored to host the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Mr. Scott C. Miller, on campus. Accompanied by a delegation from the U.S. Embassy, Ambassador Miller’s visit highlighted the strong ties between the United States and Switzerland and the importance of international education in fostering these relationships.
The ambassador was welcomed by Franklin's President, Samuel Martín-Barbero, along with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Kim Hildebrant, and senior university officials. After touring the campus, the delegation visited the McNeely Center for Ideas and Imagination, the university's most innovative building and a hub for various academic initiatives. There, the ambassador participated in a private meeting with university representatives to discuss U.S.-Swiss relations and explore opportunities for further collaboration.
Later in the day, Franklin students had the unique opportunity to engage in a roundtable discussion with the U.S. Embassy diplomats. Topics included international diplomacy, U.S.-Swiss relations, and career prospects in the fields of diplomacy and global affairs. The session was moderated by Deborah Knaust, Dean of Franklin’s Office of Student Life and Engagement, and offered students valuable insights into the workings of international diplomacy.
Ambassador Miller’s visit underscored Franklin University Switzerland’s essential role as a bridge between cultures and highlighted the importance of academic and diplomatic dialogue in promoting mutual understanding across borders.
