On Friday, June 7, 2024, Franklin University Switzerland hosted the annual World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking Announcement, which took place on the second day of the fourth Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU) Conference.

The WURI ranking evaluates higher education institutions based on their real-world contributions to industry and society. Unlike traditional rankings that primarily focus on academic achievements and research output, WURI shines a spotlight on innovative education, research, and societal engagement. This unique approach uses 13 categories to assess institutions, offering a comprehensive measure of their contributions to student advancement. The categories cover various aspects of innovation, including student support and engagement, industrial application, crisis management, and social responsibility.

This year, Franklin University Switzerland has been recognized in the WURI rankings at the 29th place in the category of Top Innovative Universities, competing among 300 institutions worldwide. This recognition underscores Franklin’s commitment to pioneering educational practices and its role in driving progress. Furthermore, Franklin achieved 7th place in the Culture and Values category, highlighting the institution’s dedication to fostering a strong, values-driven educational environment.

This year’s WURI ranking featured some of the most prestigious universities globally, including Stanford, Harvard, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Being ranked alongside such elite institutions is an example of Franklin University Switzerland’s innovative approach and its significant contributions to the global academic landscape.

The host universities for the HLU conference rotate annually between Asia, America, and Europe. The president of the host institution is subsequently appointed as the HLU President for the following year. This year, during the conference, President Samuel Martín-Barbero was appointed as the new HLU President. The fifth HLU conference is scheduled to take place in the Philippines, hosted by three distinct institutions: Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), Silliman University (SU), and Saint Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD).
