Thursday, June 9, 2022, marked the third year of the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking, and within this innovative ranking system Franklin University Switzerland placed 33rd in the top 100 most innovative universities and is ranked as one of the Top 5 universities supporting ethical values and crisis management.
The rankings included such elite universities as Stanford, Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Oxford. Franklin distinguished itself for its marked internationality and its innovative approach to hands-on education. The institution also fared well in several specialty rankings this year, including #2 in the top 50 for Ethical Value, #4 in the top 50 for Crisis Management, and #17 in the top 50 for Industrial Application.
"The smaller size of the university allows us to adapt and innovate, and our values follow social responsibility, openness, and global impact. Our student body is international. Our mission is quite explicit. We create leaders who are responsible, compassionate, and collaborative” stated President Greg Warden in his congratulatory remarks during the online conference.
The WURI ranking is designed to give a fresh, updated perspective that reflects the world in which we live right now. This is especially important as the shift in priorities and the need for global innovation rings loud and clear. The ranking is promoted by the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU) and is open to all universities, colleges, schools, and any institutions of higher education that seek to provide innovation in research and education.
In his speech, president Warden continued, “Franklin University Switzerland is deeply honored to participate in this third edition of the WURI rankings, and it is also my pleasure to introduce the designated president of Franklin as of August 1, 2022, Dr. Samuel Martín-Barbero, a strong and visionary leader who will certainly carry on the values of our university.
As an academic institution, we produce knowledge and people, individuals who will have a real impact on the world. Even just one idea, one speech, or one word can change the world. Franklin especially treasures and cultivates civil discourse, sustainable solutions, and compassionate leaders. We believe in real impact on a global scale.”
What is special about the WURI ranking for innovative universities is that it is designed to highlight universities’ efforts in engaging with and improving the future, environment, and society through innovative contributions and creative approaches. It acknowledges the challenges of creating new roles and responsibilities in leading and catalyzing change and impact, toward economic prosperity and social harmony, especially during the latest global challenges of the emergence of COVID-19 and the spread of the industrial revolution. Lastly, it also wants to promote cross-learning and innovation among all universities.
