Today, August 16, 2022, marks the first day of this year’s exciting Fall’22 Orientation week. Around 170 incoming students have started making their way to campus this morning, moving into Franklin’s eight residence halls, and adjusting to their new home. This academic year is especially extraordinary as it is the first semester ever in which Franklin students will be filling the New C residence hall, with a total of 67 new bed spaces. The New C building hosts four floors of new and modern living arrangements. The 29 apartments are fully equipped with a kitchen, a living space, one to two bathrooms, and one to four bedrooms.
During the weeks leading up to Orientation, many returning student groups have also been busy in preparing to welcome new students. The Resident Assistants (RAs), Orientation Mentors (OMs), and Academic Mentors (AMs) have all been in training and meetings with their supervisors, while the Office of Student Life has been dedicated to crafting the detailed schedule of the week and creating the hype for all of the student sessions and activities.
“Orientation’s energy is high! It is especially once you get involved, meet new people, and learn all about Franklin. We have over 30 student leaders that are ready to happily receive incoming students, support them and guide them, helping them experience the same positive vibes they had during their own Orientation. This is the moment that freshmen will remember throughout their four years at Franklin.” comments Ebonie Rayford, Assistant Dean and coordinator of this Fall’22 Orientation.
Another unique aspect of the Fall’22 Orientation is that returning and new students with their families will finally be meeting Franklin’s newly appointed President, Samuel Martín-Barbero. Before the traditional buffet-style “Taste of Switzerland” dinner at the Kaletsch Campus Grotto on Wednesday, August 17, President Martín-Barbero will be hosting a reception on the President’s Lawn welcoming and greeting the Franklin community on campus.
Life at Franklin is a distinctive blend of American, European and Swiss culture, and during Orientation, all incoming students will have the opportunity to meet new friends, learn more about Franklin’s identity and culture, the campus lifestyle, student activities and events, discuss academic options with university advisors, and discover the services and resources that our university offers.
