The Office of Student Life (OSL) is excited to launch the new Franklin by Design program which expands student experiential learning to complement positive academic achievements and ultimately strengthen student experience on campus while enhancing soft and interpersonal skills. By joining this semester-long module, Franklin students are encouraged to design their student experience engaging in extra-curricular sessions led by OSL staff members which focus on developing intercultural maturity and leadership qualities, cultivating relationships within the university and the surrounding communities, exhibiting civic responsibility and discourse behavior, learning how to prepare professionally for a job opportunity, and graduating with a stronger sense of cross-cultural perspectives that help build careers that will take them beyond national boundaries.

Dean of Student Life and Engagement, Deborah Knaust, explains that student engagement is equally important outside the classroom as in class, and therefore is critical to academic and personal success. She adds that "students who attend at least 5 sessions during one module will receive a digital certificate that can be added to thier resume, uploaded to LinkedIn or an e-portfolio, demonstrating their commitment and accomplishment."

This Spring '22 semester, Franklin by Design offers two modules to choose from:

  • Leadership by Design, led by Russell Martin, where students will understand their leadership style and gain practical skills that support their leadership positions at Franklin and beyond;
  • My Future My Design, led by Ebonie Rayford, which will connect students with Franklin alumni to take on activities such as mentoring and Career Coaching for personalized internships or job search support.
