At Franklin, our commitment to academic excellence, global citizenship, and immersive learning remains stronger than ever. In line with updated Swiss regulations, Franklin University Switzerland is officially transitioning to the status of a University Institute by 2026.
This change is a reclassification within the Swiss higher education system. The term "University Institute" designates institutions with a specialized academic focus. As a liberal arts institution primarily offering undergraduate degrees, Franklin falls within this category—just as other globally respected institutions do.
What does this mean for our students?
- Accreditation Remains Unchanged: Franklin remains fully accredited in Switzerland and the U.S. Our Swiss accreditation continues, and we remain recognized by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in the U.S. We remain recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for Title IV federal student aid (FAFSA), ensuring that students remain eligible for loans under the FAFSA process
- Degrees and Diplomas: Students who are currently enrolled will graduate with ‘Franklin University Switzerland’ on their diplomas.
- Global Recognition: Franklin graduates have pursued advanced studies at institutions like Yale, Cambridge, King’s College London, and Columbia. This transition has no impact on our graduates' competitiveness in the job market or in further education.
- We Remain Steadfast in our Mission: We continue to deliver the same high-quality, human-centered, and internationally recognized liberal arts education.
This evolution reflects our ongoing commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global engagement. Franklin remains a leading institution for students seeking a dynamic, cross-cultural education.
