Dear Franklin Community,

We are so pleased to welcome back those of you who traveled home during the winter break. To those of you who spent the winter break here, you made it! I hope you enjoyed the holidays in Switzerland.

Please join me in welcoming the students from Virginia Tech who will be taking classes on our campus this spring! A group of Tech students are living in LDV, and we can’t wait to get to know you better once everyone has completed quarantine. We are so pleased to have you here with us. We are also very happy to welcome new students from Emerson, here for the term. We will host a special “get to know each other” session in the coming week or two. All students and community members will be welcome e to join virtually. Stay tuned for more details!

Many of you are inside for the quarantine period. If so, be sure to open your windows, get some air and some sun, and pay attention to all the virtual activities offered by your RAs and the OSL. Do be in touch with your classmates who are not in quarantine. As a reminder, Franklin’s dining services are open to students who can go to the dining hall and are providing meals to those who have ordered them.  If your arrival has been delayed, please be sure to update the arrival form if you haven’t already.

Lucky for all, classes begin today! As a reminder, we will be beginning the semester remotely in line with the federal guidelines for university study. Faculty and staff are working from home when possible, so you can reach out to them via email or through Moodle or Teams. We are all here to help you get off to a great start to the term, whether we meet with you remotely or in person. Reminder, you have until Friday to make any changes to your schedule.

Do remember that the authorities recommend that you stay home when possible. Reduce your social contact and activities. Limit travel to that which is strictly necessary, and again, wear a mask, social distance, and wash your hands! If you are not feeling well or have questions about your health, please contact Chris Schmid at medical services.

Finally, we start the semester on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and we encourage you to think about how we can work together to help make Franklin a more inclusive community.
