The University COVID Workgroup continues to monitor the epidemiological situation closely. Refer to the current COVID policy that was shared in previous Community Update messages. Please read carefully the message below to remain informed and to learn how you can support our community as we prepare for the second half of the semester. Also, please keep in mind the situation could change rapidly.
- We strongly recommend our community members wear a maskwhen in close proximity to others to keep our community healthy as we prepare for the second half of the semester. This protects everyone, but particularly immune-compromised individuals. It also helps to slow the spread of respiratory illnesses, including COVID. If the epidemiological situation continues to worsen, Franklin may mandate masks for selected indoor locations on campus.
- All Franklin community members who have flu-like symptoms (cough, runny nose, sore throat, etc.) are required to wear a maskindoors.
- As COVID numbers remain high in Ticino and Switzerland, Franklin encourages our community get vaccinated and boosted if you are eligible. Ticino has launched its autumn vaccination campaign and individuals can register for a free COVID vaccine/booster at this site. Contact medicalservices@fus.edu if you need assistance.
- Franklin also encourages our community to get the flu vaccine. Dr. Paltenghi is a family doctor in Sorengo and her office has flu vaccines for students. The flu vaccine is not covered by health insurance, so students getting the flu vaccine must pay 19 CHF in cash (exact amount is requested). Students register for the flu vaccine using this online scheduling system. A message will be sent to faculty/staff if additional flu vaccines become available.
Lastly, there has been a change in the Coordinator of Medical Services position as Caroline Fahy left Franklin in October. Corbin Moro will provide health support for students until Chris Schmid returns to the position on a temporary basis while the search for a new Coordinator is underway. Students should continue to contact medicalservices@fus.edu for COVID reporting, health advice, and support.
