Ariane Mottale joined Franklin in 2020 as adjunct lecturer of Italian. She is pursuing a Ph.D. at Insubria University where she is writing a dissertation on the history of the idea of Italian irredentism between the Risorgimento and the interwar period. Her research focuses on the development of the definition of “irredentismo” and its connection to the 19th and 20th century notions of Italy.  Her research interests center around the History of Ideas, Italian History, and Fascism. In addition to teaching at FUS, she has been a non-stipendiary fellow at Insubria University since 2018.

Prior to joining Franklin, Ariane Mottale worked as a freelance translator from Italian to English for art and history exhibitions in Italy.
