FUS Academic Travel! Spring 2021
FUS continues its promise of giving students an Academic Travel experience with the Spring 2021 session, where students are still able to learn and explore in different parts of Switzerland! I was able
to summarize a handful of the travels through the responses from a few of my peers. Here are their stories in their own words.
Interviewee #1: Arpi Khachatryan is planning on getting a double major in History and CLCS and minoring in Film Studies and Applied Mathematics.

What is your Academic Travel Course, and where did you go?
CLCS230T: Science fiction and film. (She went to St. Moritz, Switzerland!)

Describe your course in 1 sentence.
Exploration of sci-fi literature, films, and theory through the lenses of cultural studies.

What was your favorite moment/activity over travel?
All of it! Cause we were making films ourselves.

What was the best food you ate?
I'm not sure about the name but it was some sort of a salad with cool sauce. (very fair)
Interviewee #2: Spencer Landry plans on majoring in Political Science with Minors in Germanic Studies, Italian Studies, Legal Studies, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies, and History.

What is your Academic Travel Course, and where did you go?
This past semester I was in POL 281T Politics of Sustainability and Development with Professor Zanecchia. For the travel aspect of the course, we went to Zermatt!

Describe your course in 1 sentence.
The course was an amazing hands-on experience to learn about current sustainability practices in Switzerland.

What was your favorite moment/activity over travel?
I think the best part of travel was going on a solo hike to Schwarzsee one day. The hike offered some amazing views of the Matterhorn and a wonderful viewing point to see the city of Zermatt below.

What was the best food you ate?
I think the best meal I had on travel was at Chez Vrony in the small village of Findeln. It was a locally sourced burger, gourmet herbal coated fries, and an ice-cold beer. It hit the spot and fueled me to keep hiking for the rest of the day!
Interviewee #3: Daniella Perezchica is double majoring in International Relations and Environment with an emphasis in Science

What is your Academic Travel Course, and where did you go?
Art History with professor Gee. It was called Harbor and Port Cities or AHT 218.

Describe your course in 1 sentence.
Lots of art!

What was your favorite moment/activity over travel?
I loved going to all the museums and hanging out with new people.

What was the best food you ate?
Food on travel was not that good because we had to eat at the hotel. But I had Holy Cow (a gourmet burger company!) which was AMAZING.
Interviewee #4: Nick Tsiapkalo is majoring in Business of Creative Enterprises at Emerson College. He is currently a semester study abroad here at FUS.

What is your Academic Travel Course, and where did you go?
STA240T --> Geneva.

Describe your course in 1 sentence.
A course full of vivid individuals with a shared passion for art.

What was your favorite moment/activity over travel?
Forging my own metal ring.

What was the best food you ate?
Ossobuco (a specialty of Lombard cuisine of cross-cut veal shanks braised with vegetables, white wine and broth. It is often garnished with gremolata and traditionally served with either risotto alla milanese or polenta, depending on the regional variation.)
Interviewee #5: Sana Tajangi is majoring in International Management with an Emphasis in Marketing.

What is your Academic Travel Course, and where did you go?
CLCS 220T, we went to Zurich, Basel, Bern, and Luzern but we stayed in Zurich in general.

Describe your course in 1 sentence.
Memorable.

What was your favorite moment/activity over travel?
The first day we hung out in the lounge of the hotel and our professor helped us get to know each other better by mingling.

What was the best food you ate?
Chicken Pad Thai!
