Eminent scholar, author and former member of our Board of Trustees.
March 5, 2021.
We have just lost a dear friend, Professor Jonathan Steinberg, Walter H. Annenberg Professor of Modern History (Emeritus) and former Chair of the department of History at the University of Pennsylvania. Among his many publications is Why Switzerland, with the latest addition “Why Italian-speaking Switzerland.”
Prof. Steinberg was a member of the Board of Trustees of Franklin and received an honorary degree from the university in 2019. His significant contributions to our University include the generous donation of his research library, a collection of over 2000 volumes focusing on Switzerland and its history, politics and culture. We plan to write about the fond recollections we have of him, about his support and engagement with so many of us at Franklin, and we look forward to posting those in a few days. Meanwhile, we send our most sincere condolences to his family and friends from the entire Franklin community.
